Yes, EMUAIDMAX Hydrocolloid Patches can be helpful for Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), but how we recommend using them depends on the stage of the abscess.
If the HS abscess is still completely under the skin, soft, and has not come to a head or started draining, we recommend applying EMUAID First Aid Ointment directly to the affected area rather than relying on a hydrocolloid patch alone. Apply a thin layer a minimum of 3 times daily. Applying it 4 times daily is recommended for optimal results.
For an HS lesion that has come to the surface, opened, or begun draining, covering the area can be beneficial. EMUAIDMAX Hydrocolloid Patches help create a protected healing environment, seal in moisture, protect the area from external irritants, plus absorb fluid from draining areas. They also deliver EMUAIDMAX directly to the affected skin.
For HS wounds with heavier drainage or deeper open areas, a hydrocolloid patch may not always be the most appropriate dressing. A non-stick, absorbent dressing that can properly manage the amount of fluid may be more suitable.
We also recommend the following during an HS outbreak:
Do not pick, squeeze, or pop the abscess. This can increase inflammation, cause additional irritation, or potentially lead to deeper rupture.
Keep the area clean. Proper cleansing is important, especially when an HS lesion has opened or is draining.
Use a warm compress. A clean washcloth with warm water can be gently placed over the affected area for approximately 10 minutes to help soothe the area.
Apply EMUAID consistently. EMUAID can be applied to nodules under the skin as well as affected areas that have reached the skin’s surface.
